Honour the past. Celebrate the present. Inspire the future.

Since 1984, the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame has been dedicated to recognizing and honouring outstanding athletes, coaches, and sports builders from our local community.

Each October, the Hall of Fame inducts individuals who have made significant contributions to sports in Barrie, achieving excellence in their respective fields locally, nationally, and internationally.

The City of Barrie graciously allowed the Allandale Recreation Centre to become the home of the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame. It’s here that the portraits celebrating the great men and women from Barrie’s sporting history – both past and present – have been displayed for over forty years.

Message from Our Chair

Tom Ewles

It would be an easy task to tell you all about our recent growth and our relationship with the City and its sponsors, but I won’t. This is a special milestone – our 40th Anniversary! We wouldn’t be here unless we recognize my predecessors, those volunteers who took the time to recognize that Barrie has a sporting heritage worth celebrating. From its start in 1985, many members of our community have given of their time to turn the Sports Hall into the organization it is today. The Barrie Sports Hall of Fame has a future in celebrating its past.

To past chairs, board members, members at large, sporting organizations, service clubs, and sponsors over the past 40 years, thank you for your dedication and support.

Regrettably, many of them have passed on, but they are not forgotten. One doesn’t get to be the 40 year chair, without some community-oriented “parents”.

Sport has grown immensely over the past 40 years. It’s big business, yet at its basic level it just people having fun and playing. Traditional sports such as hockey, baseball, football, track and field, boxing ruled the day in 1985. Sport is now diverse and inclusive; boundaries are being challenged – imagine flag football as an Olympic sport, and a professional women’s hockey league. As Sport evolves so must the Sports Hall. Past terms of reference such as residency, amateur or professional status, and sports that don’t presently meet the federal or provincial sport funding guidelines, may do so in the future.

Our work is ongoing, and ever evolving – please consider joining us!
