Honour Roll of Outstanding Teams

While teams may not be inducted into the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame, outstanding teams from our sports past are still recognized annually. The selection of teams for the BSHoF’s Honour Roll is made according to a schedule established by the Board of Directors, and with advice from the Simcoe County Archives. The name of the team and their accomplishments are displayed on plaques at the Allandale Recreation Centre. And a Certificate of Recognition is presented to each team member.

If you have photos of our Honoured Teams that you would like to add to our archives, please contact us.

2026 Honoured Team: Maddie Martynyshyn & Alyssa Kucherawy

2025-26 – OFSAA Gold Medalists – Doubles Tennis

Martynyshyn & Kucherawy

The Maddie and Alyssa team first partnered in Ottawa in 2019, during a friendly club competition, with Alyssa at age 9 and Maddie at age 10. From that point on, they trained together in Barrie, developing both their individual skills and their partnership throughout their early years in the sport.

With Alyssa attending Innisdale Secondary School in grade 9 and Maddie in grade 10, the pair reunited with a shared goal: winning an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) gold medal.

In their first season together at OFSAA, they narrowly missed advancing to the gold medal match. Refusing the setback, they rebounded to earn the bronze medal.

Motivated by their performance, they returned to Barrie and dedicated themselves to improving their skills, teamwork, and match strategy alongside their coach.

The following season, they entered the tournament as the second seed. They battled their way to the championship match but fell just short in two tiebreak sets, earning the silver medal. Although disappointed, they used the experience as motivation to continue growing as athletes and partners.

Now in Maddie’s final year of high school competition, the pair set their sights on the one achievement that had eluded them: an OFSAA gold medal. They trained harder than ever, refining their technical skills, strengthening their chemistry, and developing new strategies for high-pressure matches.

After surviving a tightly contested semi-final, Maddie and Alyssa advanced to the championship final against the tournament’s top-seeded team. They captured the opening set in a thrilling tiebreak, putting themselves just one set away from their goal.

Carrying that momentum into the second set, they delivered a dominant performance, to claim the OFSAA gold medal.

Their championship was the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and teamwork. What began as a chance partnership at a friendly club competition evolved into one of the province’s top high school doubles teams. Demonstrating that commitment, resilience, and trust in one another can turn a shared dream into reality.
