Celebrate the Olympics Games Paris 2024 with the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame

Visit the exhibit at City Hall this summer featuring the portraits of our past Olympians

Barrie, ON: The Barrie Sports Hall of Fame (BSHoF) is preparing to open a summer-long exhibit at Barrie City Hall, celebrating the upcoming Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024. This exhibit will honour the Sports Hall’s past inductees who have represented Canada – and in particular Barrie as their hometown – at the Olympics. The BSHoF is proud to display the inductee portraits of 15 athletes and builders that have participated in either the Winter or Summer Olympic Games. Residents and guests can visit City Hall from June 17th through to August 30th to view the portraits and read about these remarkable individuals, many of who have medaled in their respective sports disciplines, including Bobbie Rosenfeld, Dinty Moore, Jeff Buttle, and Megan Lukan.

“There have been so many amazing athletes that have represented Barrie on the world stage at the Olympic games. This exhibit will be a way for the Hall to celebrate their achievements and help share their stories with our community,” said Tom Ewles, Chair of the BSHoF. “Maybe it will even inspire future generations of athletes to keep striving for excellence in their sports, so that perhaps one day, their portrait will be on display at the Hall.”

At the conclusion of the exhibit – on August 30th – there will be a flag-raising ceremony, proclaiming “Bobbie Rosenfeld Day in Barrie”. (More information on that event will follow.) Shortly after, the portraits will then be returned to their home at Allandale Recreation Centre, as the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame leads up to its annual Induction Ceremony on October 2nd. Which local athletes and builders will be recognized as the Class of 2024? Well, you’ll have to follow the BSHoF on Facebook and Instagram (@barriesportshalloffame) or check their website (barriesportshalloffame.ca) to be the first to know.

About the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame:

Since 1984, the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame has been dedicated to recognizing and honouring outstanding athletes, coaches, and sports builders from our local community. Each October, the Hall of Fame inducts individuals who have made significant contributions to sports in Barrie, achieving excellence in their respective fields locally, nationally, and internationally. The City of Barrie has graciously allowed the Allandale Recreation Centre to become the home of the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame. It is here that portraits celebrating the great men and women from Barrie’s sporting history, both past and present, have been displayed for over twenty years.
