Emily MacTavish
Swimming
–
Emily MacTavish swims with the Special Olympic Team out of Barrie. She has won many ribbons locally for her freestyle and back crawl abilities. Emily is a very dedicated athlete who loves to train and never misses practice.
As she progressed to the provincial level in 2016 at Guelph University, Emily won gold and silver in swimming events. In continuing her quest for competition, Emily qualified to attend the Nationals in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and there, she accomplished an impressive showing, winning two gold and two silver medals in her swimming events.
As a member of Team Canada, Emily traveled to Dubai for the world championships where she medaled in all three of her races – the 100m (bronze), 200m freestyle (silver), and 4×50 medley relay (gold) where she was the anchor swimmer.
Emily and her family are very appreciative of the support that the City of Barrie lifeguards have provided over the years when Emily trains on her own during fitness swims at the Allandale Rec Centre.
